More detail on this person: Col. Robert Lee Sauers, U.S. Army retired, died March 12, 2007. He was born on Feb. 17, 1929, in Fort Collins, Colo., to Herman & Mary (Ring) Sauers. He is survived by his wife, Marian (Pechota) Sauers; his daughter, Valerie Lynn of New York; and son, Robert L. Sauers II of Arizona. He is the brother of William Neel and Shirlee Connor, both of Texas. Mr. Sauers was a graduate of the University of Denver, received his master's degree at Shippensburg University, Carlisle, Pa., and was a graduate of the United States Army War College, Carlisle. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force both on helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, with two tours in Vietnam as forward air control, and also in Korea as an infantryman. Mr. Sauers was a recipient of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Mr. Sauers was affiliated with the Kiwanis Club and also Sigma Chi Fraternity. There are no services scheduled. Internment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
