More detail on this person: Dwight Edward Steele FLETCHER - Memorial service for retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Dwight Edward Steele, 66, Fletcher, will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. Dwight Steele passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, at his home in Fletcher after a lengthy illness. Arrangements are under direction of Fletcher Funeral Home. Dwight Edward Steele was born Nov. 12, 1943, in Akron, Ohio, to James Dennis and Helen Belle Steele. He attended Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tenn., until graduating in 1962. In February 1963, Dwight married Nancy Watkins. The two were married for 30 years and were blessed with two sons. Dwight joined the United States Army in February 1963. He proudly served his country as an army aviator, flying Chinooks in the following locations: Vietnam, Korea, Alaska, and most of the United States. During his 27 years of service, Dwight received the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with a V for valor, and many other medals. After retiring from the United States Army, he attended Cameron University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration. Dwight owned his own trucking business for seven years. He also enjoyed wood working, collecting antiques, and model railroading. He is survived by his former wife, Nancy Steele, Kingsport, Tenn.; two sons: Greg Steele, of Fletcher; and Adam Steele and his wife, Chris, of Elgin; his mother, Helen Steele, Johnson City, Tenn.; one brother, Craige Steele and his wife, Ellen, Newport, Tenn.; one sister, Diane Burgner, Johnson City, Tenn.; one brother-in-law, Ricky Watkins, of Johnson City; two grandchildren: Nancy Brooke and Adam Jason Steele Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Dennis Steele; and one brother, J.D. Steele. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of SW Oklahoma, 1930 NW Ferris Ave, Lawton 73507-5629.
