More detail on this person: James Rodney Sykes October 13, 1946 - April 19, 2013 Sykes, Jim of Fountain City. He was born in Oak Ridge, raised in Kingston and attended Castle Heights Military Academy. Mr. Sykes served one tour of duty in Vietnam as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot. He received both a Bronze Star and a Distinguished Flying Cross. Preceded in death by his parents Mary Greene and James B. Sykes. Survived by his loving wife of 45 and a half years Sara Sykes of Fountain City, daughters and sons-in-law Casie and Michael Higginbotham of Smyrna, Jamie and Keith Bagwell of Knoxville, grandchildren Violet, Isaiah and Leah, brother Randy Sykes and wife Carrie of Seymour and nephew Chris Sykes of Knoxville, great nieces Jessica and Macy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society 's Hope Lodge in Nashville or the Arlington Church of Christ Food Bank. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2-4pm at the Arlington Church of Christ. A Funeral Service will follow at 4pm with Bro. Mark Brackney. Graveside services will be at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Lynnhurst/Greenwood Chapel.
