More detail on this person: Enlisted in Marine Corps in June 1945, rose to Gunnery Sergeant, selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program. As a 2LT completed Naval Flight School on 15 July 1955. Completed helicopter transition in 1957. Did a WESTPAC 18-month tour in UH-34D then flew with HMX-1, the Marine Presidential Helicopter squadron. As a Major, he served two years in Hawaii and then as Operations Officer of HMM-363 at DaNang. He earned the Silver Star, Purple Heart, and 23 Air Medals. He was then assigned to HMH-361 flying the CH-53A until he retired on 1 Aug 1969. MAJ Salter attained more than 4,500 total flight hours, more than 500 in combat.
