More detail on this person: Peter Charles Scaglione, Jr. Lt. Col., USMC (ret.) Peter Charles Scaglione, Jr., of Beaufort went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 18, 2010. Born in Gainesville, Florida on February 15, 1933, His father was Peter C. Scaglione Sr. His mother was Antoinette Ferlita Scaglione. He lived in Tampa, graduating With Honor from Plant High School in 1950. After study at The University of Florida, he entered military service for U.S. Naval flight training in 1953. He was then commissioned as a United States Marine aviator. His 28 year career included 2 tours of combat service in Viet Nam, and numerous squadron commands. Peter Scaglione's military career exemplified the highest ideals and actions we attribute to all our beloved American war heroes. He was most highly respected by all the fine and valiant fellow officers and servicemen, who ever knew him. His numerous awards and decorations include The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Bronze Star with Gold Combat "V", and 44 awards of the Air Medal, which represent over 800 mission flights. He is a double recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired in Beaufort S.C., in June, 1981. He lived for 33 years in Beaufort. He held many jobs in retirement, primarily in the field of auto repair, which was his lifelong hobby. He was a parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where he was well known and loved, attending Mass regularly. He was an ardent participant of perpetual adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Peter was a First Degree member in the Order of the Knights of Columbus. As husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin and friend Peter Scaglione was most dearly respected and beloved. He had a great intellect, effervescent personality and wry sense of humor. Every day of his life love and concern for us all were given like bright, beautiful bursts of color and light, lavished unselfishly into our lives. In Peter, pride and humility buckled. Stern directness was followed by dear kindness. His family and friends love him very much and will miss him always. He is survived by his wife Calla, daughter Pia, sons Dana, Gray and Peter III, his brother John, six nieces and nephews, five grandchildren, with all their families and beloved. He loved his family and he loved his country. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in Anderson Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 11:00am in St. Peter's Catholic Church with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors.
