More detail on this person: Colonel (Retired) James P Scarff, Jr., born February 2nd, 1934 in Frederick, Maryland, passed away March 9th, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Susanna Price Scarff and his parents Phillip and Charlotte Scarff. He is survived by a son James, daughter Amy, and four grandchildren, Ryan and Kaitlin Paull of Denver, CO and Adrian and Ian Scarff of Canyon Lake, TX. Col Scarff was raised in Charleston, West Virginia and graduated from West Virginia University. While at WVU he met and married his life-long mate Susanne, from there they embarked on an exciting and rewarding thirty-year Air Force career. Following pilot training he was an active flyer in fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft, then held staff officer and command positions with Strategic Air Command, Air Training Command, Hq USAF, the Pentagon and Military Airlift Command. Following retirement in 1987, Col Scarff served as Director of the Randolph AFB Retiree Activities Office for seventeen years and was a member of the Air Force Retiree Council for five years. After returning to San Antonio in 1983 he was active in Randolph Chapel activities, serving in various volunteer capacities. Graveside services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Wounded Warriors Foundation.
