More detail on this person: Simons, James Phillip, 74, died July 30, 2015 at theVeterans Administration Hospital in Denver, CO. He and his wife, the late Kay Jarvis Simons, lived in Louisville for 45 years. Jim, a former helicopter pilot, received 3 Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Distinguished Service Cross, and as buried in Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver with full military honors. He was nominated for a retroactive Congressional Medal of Honor ; Jim's reaction to the nomination was, " regardless of the medals on my chest or the battles waged on this earth , I have always tried to live with honor and do the right thing. I believe that's the best a man can do ".

Survivors include three daughters, Shelley Simons (Birmingham, Alabama) , Katy Kunkle (Cincinnati , OH) and Emily Conklin (Denver, CO), as well as eight grandchildren . Jim was the second eldest of ten children and was born to the late Harry and Marie Simons of Valley Falls, Kansas.

A " celebration of life" open house memorial will be held in the honor of Jim and Kay Simons on October 17, 2015 at 2501 Kings Highway, 40205 from 11:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. for friends and colleagues.
