More detail on this person: Lt. Col. Ret. Gary Lloyd Smith Services for Lt. Col. Ret. Gary Lloyd Smith, 66, of Leavenworth, Kan., will be Feb. 11, 2011, at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Payne and Chaplain Aubrey Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. Gary Lloyd Smith died Feb. 4, 2011, in El Paso. He was born on Jan. 29, 1945, in Norman, Okla., to Lloyd T. and Audrey E. Smith. He spent most of his young adulthood in Cleburne and graduated from Cleburne High School and Tarleton State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1968 and served his country proudly until January 1993. Gary was an OH-58 helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. His military assignments included Germany, Korea, Desert Storm, Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Fort Rucker, Ala., Fort Knox, K.Y. and Fort Walters, Texas. For many years he was an active member of the local chapter V.F.W. in Leavenworth. He was employed with Northrop Grumman at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., shortly after retiring. Survivors include a daughter, Brook Smith Hubbard and husband, Casey, of Godley; son, Justin Lloyd Smith of Leavenworth, Kan.; step-son John Van Daley of McLean, Va.; daughter-in-law, Shellye Smith of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Bree London Hubbard of Godley; grandson, Blayne Lloyd Smith of Fort Worth; step-granddaughter, Maisye Olivia Tucker of Fort Worth; and a host of other family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd T. Smith and mother, Audrey E. Smith; sister, Gayle E. Porter; and one son, Brent Lloyd Smith.
