More detail on this person: James Solomon Smith Mr. James Solomon Smith, Jr. 73 of Concord, FL. passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Big Bend Hospice House. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Faith Funeral Home in Havana with Pastor Lannis Stephens officiating. The interment will follow the service at Concord Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am (850-539-4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com Mr. Smith was born July 10, 1944 in Monticello, FL, the son of the late James S. Smith, Sr. and the late Alma Shinholser Smith. He retired from the State of Florida. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a Huey Helicopter Pilot in Vietnam. He loved farming and gardening. He was an avid sports fan. He was a laid-back person with a heart of gold, he loved to share, and expected nothing in return. The role as Granddaddy (Pas) to Gabe was what he loved most. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Alice Stephens Smith of Concord; his son James Travis Smith of Havana; his daughter Holly Smith Megna (and husband Jerry) of Tallahassee; his grandson Gabriel (Gabe) Megna; three sisters Norma Birdwell (husband Jearl) of Tallahassee; Sandra Hamrick (husband Ferrell) of Monticello; and Jan Kilpatrick of Tallahassee. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Melba Carter, Gwen Smith, Faye Sanders, and Sidney Smith.
