Music by Perry Eaton of Rusk. He was BORN 5/10/1947 to Robert Alfred Smith & Patricia Ellen Andersen. Spent his childhood years in Blessing, TX with grandparents, Melvin Roy Smith & Mabel Smith. In 1965, he graduated from Tidehaven High School and attended Texas A&M Univ. While at Texas A&M, he was a member of the Army ROTC, Texas Aggie Band, Matagorda Co. Hometown Club and Electrical Engineers Club. Graduated from A&M in May, 1969 and again in 1974 with degrees in science and engineering. Married Beverly Ann Robeson of Fairfield on 8/2/69, prior to serving as a commissioned second lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. Served 1 year in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot in DaNang and received two bronze star medals and 37 air medals before receiving an honorable discharge as Captain. He served with the first division of the 9th Air Calvary at Ft.Hood. Joined Alcoa at Point Comfort in 1974 as an electrical engineer and worked in Port Lavaca, and Evansville, IN., prior to coming to Rockdale in 1979. Active member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Memorials to American Cancer Soc. or Gideons International. SURVIVORS: Wife, Beverly and 3 sons, Jeffrey Kyle, Jason Craig and Jared Alan, all of Rockdale; mother, Patricia Janick of Milwaukee, WI.; grandmother, Mabel Smith of Blessing; brother, Arvid Smith of Pearland; 2 sisters, Nancy Kabelowsky of Milwaukee, WI. and Darlene Dwyer of Racine, WI.; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
