More detail on this person: Colonel Quay C Snyder, 60 OBITUARIES Gazette, The (Colorado Springs, CO) - Saturday, February 3, 1990 COL. QUAY C. SNYDER, 60, of Monument died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was a visiting professor in the management department at the Air Force Academy. Col. Snyder had served in the Army and was an associate professor at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, and the U.S. Army War College. After retiring from the Army, he was director of the University Center at Harrisburg, Pa., a senior manager with a large health insurance company and an education associate with the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Graveside services were conducted Friday at the Air Force Academy Cemetery. Memorial services will be at noon Wednesday at the Air Force Academy Protestant Cadet Chapel. Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave., is in charge of arrangements. Col. Snyder was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Dallastown, Pa., to Matthew S. Quay and Mary A. (Lentz) Snyder. He graduated from West Point in 1954 and earned a master's degree from Purdue University in 1963 and a doctorate degree from New York University in 1972. Col. Snyder's military service included duty with the 82nd Airborne Infantry; as an aide-de-camp to the commanding general of the I Corps, Republic of Korea; as a fixed-wing and helicopter pilot; and as commander of the 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion in Vietnam. He was married June 8, 1954, to Joan Bergdoll, who survives. Col. Snyder also is survived by two sons, Maj. Quay C. Snyder Jr. and Maj. David M. Snyder, both of Monument; a daughter, Joanna M. of Atascardero, Calif.; two sisters, Nancy Bell of Knoxville, Tenn., and Carlyn Dentler of York, Pa.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James B. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the giver's choice or the Col. Quay C. Snyder Memorial Award Fund in care of Cheryl Barnes, Air Academy National Bank, P.O. Box 10, Air Force Academy 80840. The fund will be used for an annual award to Air Force Academy management department instructors who are outstanding in their commitment to cadet development and involvement.
