Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, KS. Joseph was born December 25, 1945 in Cincinnati, OH to Charles Ray and Marian (Schoettelkotte) Sours. He grew up in Neosho, MO and attended area schools. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served as a helicopter pilot. After the war he attended college on the GI Bill and earned his Master's Degree in Industrial Arts at California State University in Chico, CA. On July 17, 1969 he married Monty Mabe in Clinton, North Carolina; she survives at the home. Joseph worked as a plant manager for Cook Paint and Varnish Company in Kansas City, MO for over 20 years. Later starting his own animal soft sculpture company called The Bear Lady before retiring due to ill health. Joseph was of the Catholic Faith. Survivors include his wife; mother Marion of Chico, CA; siblings Jack Sours and wife LeeAnn of Neosho, MO, Dr Jim and Dr. Linda Sours of Pittsburg, KS, Gene and Ethel Sours of Sacramento, CA, Jan and Larry Payne of Coquille, OR, Stan and Judy Sours of Round Mountain, CA, Tom and Ellen Sours of Sonoma, CA and Dan and Mary Sours of Chico, CA: and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and sister Suzanne Sours. Memorial Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday December 3, 2008 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Fr. Robert McElwee officiating. Informal visitation will be 1 hour prior to service on Wednesday. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, KS at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Good Bears of the World. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762.
