More detail on this person: Mr. David M. Spurgeon passed away at his residence in Ozark on Monday, October 17, 2011, following a brief illness. He was 69.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011, at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 20, from 5-7 p.m. at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to DAV Chapter 94 Ozark, P.O. Box 57, Ozark, AL 36361.

Mr. Spurgeon was born January 13, 1942 in Alabama City, Alabama, son of the late James Myron and Izell Mize Spurgeon. He retired from the U.S. Army as a CW05 and served as Safety Director for the City of Ozark for over 10 years. Mr. Spurgeon was a member of the DAV Chapter 94 Ozark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Ronnie Spurgeon and Randy McGowan

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Barbara Spurgeon; one daughter, Lisa Monnat (Maj. Anthony); one son, David Michael Spurgeon; two sisters: Peggy Cicero (Ron) and Delores Smith-Higgenbottom (Robert); and three grandchildren: Andrew, Madeleine, and Lauren Monnat.
