More detail on this person: Richard B Stephens, 76 Deaths Press-Register (Mobile, AL) - Thursday, January 31, 2008 SPANISH FORT Richard B. Stephens, a native of Boston and a resident of Spanish Fort for the past 13 years, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at a local hospital. He was 76. Stephens spent 23 years in the U.S. Army. He retired as a master aviator and held the rank of lieutenant colonel. He had served tours of duty in the United States, Germany, Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. He received numerous commendations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, home based at Sahib Temple in Sarasota, Fla. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lowell Stephens; four children, Richard B. Stephens Jr., Deborah A. Munoz, Susan B. Schanbaum and Mary Jane Brantley; one brother, Raymond D. Stephens; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service is set for 10:30 a.m. today at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. Burial in Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in Mobile is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
