More detail on this person: Merrill (Steve) Edward Stevens Merrill (Steve) Edward Stevens CWO4 US Army (Ret) Merrill passed away Oct. 9, 2001 in Lakewood, WA in the comfort of his home. He was born Sept. 21, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles Edward and Harriet Alma Stevens. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles (Bud), thirteen years his senior. His family moved to Washington State in 1925. Merrill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Jeannette (maiden name Westlund); daughter Kathy Smith (s/o Rich) of San Diego; son Gary Stevens (wife Karen) of Che- welah, WA; daughters Maureen Crowley (husband Lyle) of Vancouver, WA, Shanta Stevens of Lakewood, WA; grandchildren Scott and Shawn (wife Heather) Smith, Christie, Jason and Heather Harrison and Sara Stevens, and Jeremiah and Rachel Crowley; great-grandchildren Joseph, Rebekah, Maya and Jakob Smith; and faithful pets Rudy and Pony. Merrill had recently celebrated his 80th birthday with his wife and four children by his side. In addition to being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Merrill served in various branches of the service for a period of 32 years. He was an aviator in WWII, the Korean conflict and two tours in Vietnam. Merrill received numerous commendations and medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Gold Star in Korea, and the Bronze Star in Vietnam. Graveside service and inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, 1:30 PM, Monday, Oct. 15th. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Franciscan Hospice.
