He was reared on Lake Hiawassee in West Orange County, graduated from Edgewater High and the University of Mississippi. Flying lessons as a teenager lead to a career in aviation including 12 years' service in the U.S. Army and Reserve as a helicopter pilot. This included Vietnam with the 101 Airborne Division, the 348th Medical Detachment of Orlando, a helicopter medevac reserve unit and in Frankfurt, Germany with the V Corps. He spent 10 years overseas training military pilots for the Shah of Iran and Air Force pilots in Saudi Arabia. He also was a pilot flying in the Persian Gulf supporting oil exploration in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The next 25 years, he was Pilot/Base Manager for Omniflight Helicopters providing medical evacuation transport for hospitals in the Orlando area. Preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Stokes Morrin, surviving are daughters, Tracey Erin Stokes (Erik Gagnon), Barbie Stokes (Chris) Timpson; granddaughter,Charlotte Amelia Timpson and former wife and caregiver, Cathleen Caldwell Stokes. Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be held June 1, 2019. Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, FL is serving the family. Published in the Orlando Sentinel on May 31, 2019.
