More detail on this person: Archie W. Summers Archie W. Summers, born January 30, 1922, died peacefully on January 25, 2002 after a long illness. Archie was a resident of Lake Placid, Florida since his retirement from the Army in 1975. He is survived by his wife, B'Jo, and her mother, Lou C. Kellogg, and a son, Sean, all of Lake Placid; his son Gene and his wife Karen, and their children, Shane, Alexandra and Savannah, all of Waxahachie, Texas. Archie was educated in DuQuoin. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University and after WW II, graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. and did graduate work at Gonzaga Law School, Troy State University and University of Southern California. A veteran of WW II, Korea and Vietnam, he was a Master Army Aviator with 33 years active service, including his last two assignments as Defense Attache' in Rangoon, Burma and as Liaison Officer for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Moving to Lake Placid in 1975 after retiring as a Colonel from the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., he decided to run for the County Commission. After one unsuccessful attempt, he was then elected in 1986 and served two terms. He was a member of the Board for the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and the Lakes Association. He was instrumental in starting the Placid Lake Homeowners Association and was a member of TROA, the Air Force Association, the American Legion, the DAV and other military associations. Services were scheduled for Thursday, January 31 at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Lake Placid, FL.
