Swinton Progress-Index, The (Petersburg, VA) - Saturday, November 8, 2008 Pettersburg VA United States Raymond Michael Swinton, 71 of Prince George County died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Swinton, served many years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam. Rising through the ranks, he obtained the rank of Lt. Col. Following his military service, he continued to serve his country as a Dept. of the Army Civilian, retiring from the Logistics Center at Fort Lee., Va.. Mr. Swinton was the son of the late Wallace J. and Elizabeth Bartole Swinton. He is survived by his wife, Janet Peterson Swinton of Prince George; two daughters, Cherie Chariton and her husband Mark, also of Prince George; Laura Morris and her husband Kevin of Buxton, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Travis, Harley, Joseph and Carleigh; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Caydence; a sister, Yvonne Mullen and her husband Joe of Anita Iowa; one nephew and four nieces. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Internment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA, 23058 or the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA, 23060.
