More detail on this person: In 1952, Lt. Sidney
came to Company L, 15 Regiment, 3 division while
we were waiting for replacements in reserve.
During three weeks of intensive training with the
recent replacements, we returned to the Main Line
of Resistance a disciplined fighting company. He
was a leader in every definition of the word. He
knew everyone by name. He checked us before we
went out on a raid or patrol. He would adjust a
strap or make sure we had enough magazine
cartridges. When we encountered the Chinese, he
stood up and shouted at them and then went from
man to man to make sure they were firing their
rifles. In two instances he saved numerous
lives. This information was last updated 05/18/2016

One: We were caught in an ambush. We had
csualties. When we were low in ammo, he decided,
rather than to return on the same path we
approached, he ordered us to evacuate by sliding
down a cliff, wade into the Imjin River and return
a mile or two to our friendly outpost. Not a man
was lost by this quick decision.
Two: On a raid upon Hill 121 near our Outpost Big
Nori, a squad of Chinese attempted to surround us
while we were engaging the enemy on the Hill.
Prior to our deployment up the Hill, Lt. Sidney
placed a recoilless rifle team on a small hill
behind us. I heard the screams as the rifle team
eliminated the squad with white phosphorus
rounds.
Lt. Sidney volunteered to go on to Vietnam where
he commanded a Helicopter field. He retired from
the army as a Lieutenant Colonel. Among his
awards are 2 Silver Stars, eight Bronze Stars, The
Distinguished Flying Cross and many more too
numerous to mention
