More detail on this person: Daniel A. Simantel Crop duster dies in crash HILLSBORO - A 26-year-old self-employed crop dusting pilot was killed Tuesday night when his single wing plane crashed near Kirkman Road and Zion Church Road north of here. Daniel A. Simantel of 3831 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove, was dead on arrival at Tuality Community Hospital. The accident happened at 6:44 p.m. The cause was being investigated by the Federal Aviation Agency. Simantel's craft was a Stinson L-5 that had been converted for crop dusting. He reportedly had been in business in the area for only a short time. The crash occurred near Simantel's base of operation. He was crop dusting by flying a Piper PA-25 Pawnee specifically designed for spraying. There was a fire after the impact.
