More detail on this person: William E. "Eddie" Tharp, 53, formerly of the Marion and Springville area, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, in Indonesia following a short illness. Private burial services will be at a later date in Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. Local arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion. Survivors include his mother; two sisters; and a brother. Also surviving are three nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his father, William Tharp, in 1973. He was born the son of William and Ruth Pinch Tharp on Oct. 19, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. He attended school at Marion Rural Independent and Springville. Eddie served in the Army as a warrant officer helicopter pilot during the Vietnam conflict and was a helicopter flight instructor at Fort Rucker, Ala.
