More detail on this person: Dean M. Thornton Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (AK) - October 19, 2006 Dean M. Thornton Dean Monroe Thornton, 59, passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, in North Pole. Dean was born on Oct. 16, 1946, to Burt and Ann Thornton in Fresno , Calif. He is a graduate of McLane High School in Fresno and attended Fresno State College. He served his country courageously during two tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, and also served in Germany as a warrant officer. Dean moved to Alaska beginning in 1978. He had lived in Fox, Fairbanks and most recently North Pole. His family said, "He loved Alaska and the wilderness areas. He will be missed by many friends in Fairbanks and North Pole. After becoming disabled, he lived at Monta Faye Lane's Assisted Living Home where he received loving care." He was preceded in death by his parents. Dean is survived by his sister, Diana Morrison, of California. A private memorial took place at the Arctic Hearth Assisted Living Home on Oct. 15. Arrangements were by Fairbanks Funeral Home and Crematory.
