More detail on this person: MAJ. BENJAMIN GORDON THOMAS MAJ. BENJAMIN GORDON THOMAS, 72, died the morning of Oct. 2, 2006, with his brother by his side, following a long battle with lung cancer. He was born April 17, 1934, in Lima to Robert and Jane Lamb Thomas, who preceded him in death. Maj. Thomas retired from the Army after 20 years, having served tours in Vietnam and Korea. He had been a maintenance officer and helicopter pilot, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Master Army Aviator Badge. He had also retired as owner and operator of Thomas Marina, Seaford, Va. He enjoyed pursuing his lifelong pleasure of golfing, fishing, traveling and visiting with family in Ohio and Florida. Survivors include a brother, Charles L. "Chick" (Frances) Thomas of Lima; a sister, Natalie (Jack) Feldmann of Marathon, Fla.; two children, Charles M. Thomas and Catherine J. Thomas, both of Yorktown, Va.; and three grandchildren, Charles M. Thomas Jr., Matthew M. Thomas and Emily G. Thomas, all of Yorktown, Va. Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Cemetery, with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Army Transportation Museum Foundation, Drawer D, Fort Eustis, Va. 23604. Arrangements are by Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel.
