Thomson Jr. passed away July 14, 2011, in Castle Rock, Colo., after a short illness. He is survived by his sons, Robert and Patrick of Atlanta and Castle Rock, respectively, their wives, Rosemarie and Diane; and families, including five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. "Tommy," a retired Army colonel, was 89 years old and had lived in Shalimar over 37 years prior to his recent relocation to Colorado. He and Virginia "Ginny" Thomson of Wichita Falls, Texas, had been married for 62 years when she passed away in November 2010. After 32 years of military service, including combat in World War II, Korea and Vietnam as both a Field Artillery officer and an Army aviator, Tommy left active duty as the Army's liaison officer at the Air Force Weapons Development Center at Eglin Air Force Base and settled on Poquito Bayou. He was known locally as "The Bike Man" as a result of his penchant for repairing bicycles and his collection of hundreds of used bikes. He will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with his beloved wife on Nov. 1.
