More detail on this person: Michael W Tierney Michael was born on October 27, 1933 and passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011. Michael was a resident of Dumfries, Virginia. He attended Georgia Tech in the 1950's. Mike retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1985. Following his initial tour in Vietnam, he served two additional deployments in support of operations in the Vietnam War. Mike represented the Marine Corps on the NATO AIRSOUTH staff in Naples, Italy from 1973-76. At the pinnacle of his career, he served as commanding officer of VMA 224, an A6 attack squadron, from 1977-79. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge VA from 6-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, VA. Interment will immediately follow at Quantico National Cemetery to be followed by a reception for friends and family at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
