More detail on this person: Lawrence Allen (Larry_ Vineyard passed away on February 22, 2019 at his home in Dayton, Oregan, with family members at his side. Larry was born on March 16, 1943 in Charleston, West Virginia. He was the third of four children born to Dayton Vineyard and Mabel Smith Vineyard. He was preceded in death by his parents and by sisters Beverly Vineyard and Betty Vineyard White. Larry served in the U.S. Army, with active duty in Vietnam as a Warrant Officer. At age 22, he was awarded the "V for Valor" medal for flying his helicopter on a rescue mission. Without lights, he flew into a battle zone during a nighttime enemy attack on his unit to rescue the crew of another helicopter downed by enemy fire. After his time in Vietnam, Larry served as an Army helicopter training officer. Upon release from military service, he was employed by Evergreen Helicopters at McMinnville, Oregon, and later formed his own business, Timberline Helicopters. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou; son John Dayton Vineyard; grandsons Christian, Cody and Andrew Vineyhard; step-daughter Kim Schroeder Maltman; step-sons Scott and Mark Schroeder; sister Carolyn Vineyard Kuhn; and brother-in-law Herb Huhn.
