More detail on this person: SIERRA VISTA - Edward "Ed" A. Weiss, age 78, and a resident of Sierra Vista, passed away on March 25, 2018. He was born December 23, 1939 to Edward and Guelda Weiss in Portland, Oregon, and then moved to Spokane, Washington. After spending a few years in Spokane, the family moved back to Portland where Ed graduated from Cleveland High School and the University of Oregon. After graduating from the University of Oregon in 1964, Ed was commissioned in the Marine Corps as a Naval Aviator through the Platoon Leaders Class (PLC). Ed was assigned to flight school in Pensacola and graduated in 1966. He was designated a helicopter pilot and flew UH-34s in Vietnam with HMM 163 "The Ridgerunners." Ed proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964-1969, having reached the rank of Major. He received many decorations for his service in Vietnam, the highest being the Air Medal (25th Award). On his return he joined the reserves and served the HMM-777, MAG 46 and 1/23 until retirement in 1984. Semper Fi!! After discharge from the Marine Corps, Ed worked in human resources for Fluor Corporation and then retired from Hitachi America, Ltd., after 20 years. Ed loved to travel. His work took him to Japan on many occasions. He traveled to Australia and New Zealand with his brother Marsh. He loved his yearly Thanksgiving trip to Puerto Vallarta, where he spent time with many lifelong friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Guelda Weiss, and his brother, Marshall Weiss. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Weiss, and niece, Kim (Tom) Fergin. A very special thank you to all his great friends, including Richard, Bill, Giesala, Mark, David, Bryan and Lanny. In memory of Ed, if you wish, please make a donation to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund or your favorite charity. A military honor will be held at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
