More detail on this person: Charles Edward Yonts Jr., age 78, of Huntington Beach, California passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Charles was born August 21, 1943 in Cleveland, OH and raised in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Oakwood High School(1961). Preceded in death by his parents Charles Edwards Yonts Snr. and May(Roodman)Yonts. Pets Tippy I, II, Bubba, Mimi, Fattboy/Shao Pa, Tanker/Mei Nan and Dude/Shao Fei. Survived by his wife Martha Wang, two children Charles Edwards Yonts III(Meg), Mayre Yonts Rodriguez(Javier), and 5 grandchildren, Abby(14), Henry(11), Evan(10), Luke(7) and Mara(7). Charles honorably served (1967-1970) as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army. While in Vietnam, he was assigned to the 116th Assault Helicopter Company - The Hornets. During his multiple combat tours (1968-69), he also was a member of the 7th Cavalry and 25th Aviation Company. He left active service as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW2) with multiple military awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross (w/Oak Leaf Cluster), a Bronze Star and an Air Medal for valor. After an honorable discharge he lived in Miami, Florida and then Tallahassee, Florida where he was a Senior Staff Assistant for Senator Bob Graham. During this time, as a veteran and military affairs specialist, he proudly helped other U.S. veterans of all conflicts receive the medals and benefits they earned for their service. He was a good storyteller who loved Corvettes, Mustangs, Stan Getz, his pets, video games, and gin martinis..."has to be gin or else it's not a real martini". Above all, despite the long distances, he always loved his families. He will be missed, but not forgotten. A funeral service for Charles will be held Friday, May 27, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Rainbow Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601. Charles will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Buddhist Memorial Col Level 2; Gate: 1, Section: 2, Tier: 2E1, Niche: 9I.
