Ed was hit by a single shot that came through the side door over the top of the seat and entered his head just under his right ear. The action was in the Kontum area in II Corps -- not I Corps. I had to go to Long Binh to identify the body. I wrote his father and subsequently we continued to communicate for some time. His father was an artist and each envelope and letter were covered by drawings. From: Ronald Merritt, CO of the 129th.
