War Story:
I was the gunner, It's been too many years and I quess I blocked things out too well and sorry to say don't remember the crew chiefs name, maybe Rick? We were taking a captain from one check point to another just down the supposedly secure road. We were going down the road 80+ knots at treetop level - too low. We took a rocket forward to my front and nosed down hit the ground and flipped. I woke up on the ground. The Captain broke some ribs and other injuries. The crew chief injured his back I think. I was the only one who was able to move around, but I was torn up pretty good. When I got to the crash, the bird had nosed down and the nose had flattened and the bird was on fire. I got the peter pilot out but--- I don,t remember what happened to the pilot. I quess my mind blocked it out. It really pissed me off at the time because after we crashed no one from either check point would come to help us! I always had extra weapons in case of a crash and wouldn't you know it we lost everything. Luckily for us a Chinook saw the smoke and got us out or we wouldn't have made it out. I really would like to remember and get in touch with the others.
