War Story:
This was our first mission since our company was redesignated with the 1st Aviation Brigade after the 1 Cav pulled out. We were flying "chuck chuck" over Firebase 6 (ARVN base with 10 U.S. advisors). They were running out of ammunition. The base was being hit by two NVA regular divisions. We volunteered to sling ammo in. Our first pass went okay taking only a few holes. Our second trip, they were waiting. Roger took a round through the windshield to the face. He went into a death grip on the controls and we spun into the ground outside the perimeter. The right seat, crew chief and I survived and crawled into the firebase. Due to the "heat", we left Roger with the ship to recover later. The firebase got over-run nine days later. from Bob Johnson May 1997
