operation MASHER information
for 3 BDE 1 CAV
the Bong Son campaign

From date 660125 to 660306

3 BDE 1 CAV was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Operation MASHER
Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam
Description: The Bong Song Campaign would be the 1st Cav's second major set of operations and battles against another enemy division. The Ia Drang Valley Campaign in October, 1965 was the first. There were five phases to operation MASHER and contact with the enemy was maintained on all 41 days. Eventually the allies would fight a complete circle around the town of Bong Son. This operation ended doubts that air assault tactics could be used effectively even in bad and marginal flying weather. And it gave impressive demonstrations of sustained aerial resupply as four infantry battalions were given excellent support as they ranged up to 37 miles from the base camp.
