Operation MASHER
South Vietnam
Description: Phase II of operation MASHER began on the 28th when the 3rd Bde, 1st Cav conducted an air assault and started an overland attack north of Bong Son. On the 29th and 31st more assaults were made to the northeast of Bong Son until all three Inf bns had been inserted in the Cay Giep Mountains. From the high ground, these units attacked down on the the Bong Son Plains and the An Lao Valley. A/1/9 Cav was opconed to the 3rd Bde and screened areas in front and on the flanks of the infantry units.
