Description: Phase III of operation MASHER, began as the 2nd Bde reinforced the 3d Bde 1st Cav Div to engage the 18th NVA Reg in heavy fighting in the coastal region of Binh Dinh Province eight miles north of Bong Son. During this six-day period, they reported killing over 600 enemy by body count, captured 357 NVA, and recovered 49 individual weapons and six crew-served weapons while suffering 75 KIA and 240 WIA. After being reinforced by the 2d Bde, the 3d Bde moved into the rugged An Lao region and linked up with the DOUBLE EAGLE I Marines. In addition to using the 11 CAG aviation assets, each brigade had one ACT from the 1/9th Cav.
