Operation JIM BOWIE
Binh Dinh Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Kim Son Valley
Description: A search and destroy operation is conducted by the 1st and 2d Brigades, 1st Cav Division the Kim Son, Soui Ca, and Vinh Thanh valleys of Binh Dinh Province aimed at destroying the Kon Truck staging area west of the Kim Son Valley. The operation also included a sweep of the upper Song Ba Valley to the northwest. Casaulties: U.S. 3 KIA, 377 WIA (majority of wounds attributed to punji stake booby traps); NVA 27 KIA, 17 POWs. The 2/20th ARA unit history states that bad weather prevented the use of USAF Tac Air and delayed the start for two days.
