joint operation TEXAS/LIEN KET 28 information

From date 660320 to 660325

Operation TEXAS
Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam
Location, An Hoa
Description: When the 1st VC Regt challenged the insertion of the An Hoa reaction force, the 7th Marines and 2d ARVN Div decided to mount an operation as they had done earlier in the month with operation UTAH/LIEN KET 26. Operation TEXAS/LIEN KET 28 began with one Marine and one ARVN battalion landing near An Hoa. While the enemy was not there, the allied commanders guessed where they were and contact was made. Several strong battles were fought before the VC withdrew. Captured documents indicated the allies had encountered the 60th and 90th battalions of the 1st VC Regt and the 11th from the 21st NVA Regt. The joint operations claimed a total of 623 known enemy casualties. The Marines reported killing 283 enemy troops while sustaining casualties of 99 KIA and 212 WIA. There was a short epilogue to TEXAS, see operation INDIANA.
