The Aircraft Commander, CPT Raymond L. Hardy, and the Pilot, MAJ Wilford C. Isner, were both wounded by a 50-caliber round that entered the cockpit, richocheted off the armor-plated seats and exited out the other side. Both officers were evacuated to Army hospitals and CPT Hardy was later sent back to the States for additional recuperation. MAJ Isner returned to the unit after some convalescence at the Qui Nhon Army hospital. During this action, an armed helicopter, commanded by CPT Robert W.
