Description: The battalion history states that MAJ Richard Washburn lead four C Battery aircraft in an attack near Bong Son. At 1400H, the received vicious massed fire from five heavy AA machine guns. The ARA aircraft immediately returned the fire and aggressively overcame the concentrated fire of the well placed AA battery. Although two of the aircraft had been hit, the well executed aerial attacks silenced the enemy weapons. Surveillance confirmed the destruction of at least one of the 12.7mm AA guns and five VC crew members killed.
