Description: Phase II of operation MACON began on the 6th with LZ preps. At 1000, 20 CH-46s from HMM-164 and HMM-265 inserted two companies into LZ Dixie and at 1100, two more into LZ Savannah. Soon two full battalions were on each LZ. Phase II ended on the 10th when the two battalions linked up. They claimed 87 VC killed at a cost of eight US KIA and 33 US WIA.
