Description: While trying to land Recon Team #1 during Project DELTA Operation 5-67 in the A Shau Valley, the helicopter was blasted by automatic weapons fire, causing it to lose all oil pressure. The pilot crash-landed and everyone formed a defensive circle around the downed aircraft. One NVA machine gun was silenced and after dark another helicopter lifted out the crewmen and three LLDB soldiers. Three SF and one LLDB were still on the ground. A second helicopter trying to reach them struck the trees with its rotor and crashed only 20 yards away. The crew and another SF sergeant joined the first group on the ground. All personnel were extracted under flarelight at 2130H without further incident.
