Operation FRANCIS MARION
Pleiku Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Description: As part of FRANCIS MARION, the 3/12th Inf was ordered to reinforce the 1/8th Inf, 4th Inf Div after their battle with the 32d NVA Regt. As the 3/12th left their NDP on the morning, they were showered with NVA mortars and attacked by the 66th NVA Regt. Artillery, air, and gunship were used liberally right up to the very edge of their lines. Two helicopters delivered loads of vital ammunition and shortly afterwards, the NVA broke off their attack.
