Description: The following is an edited version of photo captions that relate to helicopters from the 20 Jan 1968 issue. Many of these photos were credited to CWO Donald R. Joyce, 1st AVN BDE-IO. Photo Caption-GUARDIAN ANGEL - A helicopter from the 7th Cavalry, 1st Cav Div gives protective coverage to a convoy. Photo Caption - JUNGLE RESUPPLY - During a resupply mission a chopper from the 240th AHC hovers over a clearing hacked out by paratroopers of the 1st Bde 101st Abn Div as SSgt Larry A Fletcher climbs aboard. Photo Caption - TWO CAN RIDE AS CHEAP AS ONE Two Hueys ride side by side as they come into the 1st Cav Div's base camp at An Khe. The Flying Crane's commander CWO, James Handley, said, "No Problem experienced. They stabilized much better than only one Huey." (Most likely from the 478th HHC.) Photo Caption - SUPPLY MISSION - A Chinook from the 179th ASHC approaches Dak To mountain-top fire base with 7000 pounds of ammunition. During the two-week battle, the 179th airlifted an average of 300 tons of supplies a day to the 4th Inf Div soldiers fighting in the area. Photo Caption - BRINGING FUEL - Pathfinders from the 52nd Pathfinder Detachment radio departure information to a Chinook from the 180th ASHC as it carries two 400 gallon fuel "blivets" to a forward fire base. Photo Caption - NO DEPOSIT, NO REFUND - Empty fuel blivets are returned to a rear fuel storage area by a Chinook from the 213th ASHC. The fuel was used in the Dak To battle area. Photo Caption - READY TO LOAD - A supply rigger of the 173rd Abn Bde holds sling "donut" as a Chinook from the 179th ASHC prepares to hook up during the battle. Photo Caption - BIG LIFT - A giant Skycrane moves away with a bulldozer in tow after the 4th Engineers had cleared another 1st Brigade, 4th Inf Div firebase in the dense jungle near Dak To.
