Description: The following is an edited version of an article titled "Copters Join With Cav" dated 27 Jan 1968.
The Hornets of the 116th AHC recently combined with ground elements of the 3/17th Cav on a combat assault operation in to an area suspected of being a VC headquarters. The combined operations of the ground and air teams came after the area had been heavily bombarded by Air Force B52's. The mission of the combined force was to enter the area and ascertain the amount of damage done by the B52s and to gather any information which might be of intelligence value. The first insertion into the area, located northeast of Soui Da, brought negative enemy contact, but the second lift was met with heavy automatic weapons fire.
