Tet-68 in Blackhorse information
for 3/5 CAV
9 INF

For date 680131

3/5 CAV was a US Army unit
9 INF was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Long Khanh Province, III Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Blackhorse
Description: MAJ Mahler, the squadron XO, states that because they had been listening to radio reports of the heavy fighting in cities to the north, they knew it was coming and were on alert. A Troop was located to the north on QL 1, securing FSB Apple, which was midway between Xuan Loc and Bien Hoa. Both B and C troops were in Blackhorse from which they performed road and local security missions. Suddenly at 0600H, the division radio channels came alive with reports of large attacking forces moving against Tan Son Nhut and Bien Hoa air bases plus Long Binh and Saigon. One of the 9th Inf Div’s mechanized infantry battalions had been sent to Long Binh during the night. All was still quiet around Blackhorse.
