Operation MUSCATINE

Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 3 Feb 1968 issue.
In frequent and heavy contact with enemy forces throughout the southern portion of the I Corps Tactical Zone, units reported killing 162 enemy. The heaviest fighting erupted in Operation Muscatine. Elements of the 198th LIB trapped a large number of enemy and served as a blocking force as 80 enemy were killed by infantrymen of the 3rd Bde, 4th Inf Div. In Operation Wheeler/Wallowa the 3rd Bde, 1st Cav Div killed 49 enemy in numerous contacts in the Que Son Valley area. Five enemy were killed by members of the 11th LIB in actions near Duc Pho.
