Description: The following is an edited version of an article titled "8 Die in Viet Copter Crash" S&S Vietnam Bureau.
Saigon - The Quang Duc province chief and his senior American adviser were killed in the crash of a U.S. helicopter near Gia Nghia Friday, the U.S. mission in Saigon reported Saturday. Six other persons aboard the helicopter were also killed. Two crew members were the only survivors of the crash. The province chief was identified as Col. Manh (no first name given). The senior American adviser was said to be Robert N. Hamblin, from Danville, Kentucky. Among the other dead were two Montagnard passengers and Manh's bodyguard. The others were U.S. military personnel whose names were withheld pending notification of next of kin. The U.S. mission said the apparent cause of the crash was engine failure.
