Description: The following is an edited version of an article titled "Kills 90 Operation Hits VC, NVA With Artillery" dated 8 June 1968. Artillery fire called in by a paratrooper from the 101st Abn Div killed 90 VC and NVA soldiers in the area of Operation McLain. A reconnaissance team from the 3/506th Abn was conducting a search mission when they spotted a reinforced enemy company. Pointman PFC Tim Keller stopped the patrol when he spotted 20 VC near railroad tracks leading toward the mountains west of here. Artillery was immediately called in on the enemy. As the team moved down the tracks a VC was spotted running a short distance ahead of them. Soon several others were spotted. The patrol killed all of them and captured two AK-47 rifles and one carbine. Shortly another 18 enemy were seen. Looking down the trail through binoculars more than 125 enemy soldiers were located. Artillery and gunships were called in on the enemy. After the gunships made their second pass the patrol was extracted leaving more than 90 dead VC and NVA soldiers on the battlefield.
