Description: 22Jun68-More Unidentified Aircraft Seen
SAIGON (S&S) - Unidentified aircraft believed to be North Vietnamese helicopters were sighted again Wednesday night along the Demilitarized Zone, the U.S. Mission said. It was the fourth straight night of sightings and a U.S. spokesman said for the first time that these were both radar and visual observations. All previous reports indicated the objects were seen only on radar screens. But the spokesman said Thursday that Monday's sightings were also visual. He also said that Air Force F4 Phantoms fired on the aircraft on two occasions over the weekend. Meanwhile, an aura of mystery surrounds the U.S command's investigation into reports of the sightings and the possibility that a North Vietnamese helicopter may have been responsible for the sinking Sunday of a Navy Swift boat in the Gulf of Tonkin.
