For date 680730

155 AHC was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Darlac Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Camp Coryell
Description: The 155th Aviation Company unit history states that during the month of July they conducted the majority of their activities in Darlac Province. Eleven platoon and two company sized CAs were flown in support of the 23d ARVN Div while 15 platoon sized CAs were flown for elements of the 5th SF Group. Due to efforts at the Battalion level, they only operated outside the local area six times during the month compared to 49 CAs conducted outside in June. They flew 9 APD missions for the 23d ARVN Div and on 16 occasions provided gunship support. Their aircraft availability rate changed from a low of 6 slicks and 4 guns to 16 and 5 during July. This was due primarily to having a total of 6 aircraft in the 11th PE and two 1,000 hour plus aircraft were transferred out. The company received 2 UH-1Cs from the 361st and lost one due to an engine failure. The higher percentage of mission ready aircraft was achieved even though the number of mechancis on hand was steadily decreasing during the period. With the coming of July, the monsoon season finally arrived in the Central Highlands making early missions difficult if not often impossible. The unit history mentioned several changes that improved morale within the 155th. For example, the frequent guard duty assignments due to a shortage of personnel tended to have a detrimental effect on morale but was countered by allowing guards the morning off after their tour of duty.
