unit history information
for 361 AWC
665 TC DET

For date 680731

361 AWC was a US Army unit
665 TC DET was a US Army unit
Primary service involved, US Army
Pleiku Province, II Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Camp Holloway
Description: The maintenance section of the 361st AWC history reported for the period of 23 May, when they arrived at Camp Holloway, through the end of July that parking and maintenance facilities were established on the Christmas Tree, a newly constructed heliport on the northern perimeter of Camp Holloway. The maintenance area being incomplete, maintenance operations were established in lane one while the remaining two lanes were used for parking, with one corner of the third lane established as ammunition holding and rearming area. Again maintenance was conducted from two maintenance shelters with several of the Allied Shops established themselves semipermanently in Conex containers. The three months on the Christmas Tree were certainly interesting ones for the maintenance personnel. Having to maintain six aircraft on TDY in a flyable status posed some exciting moments. The load was increased due to the shortage of personnel caused by the AH-1G schooling. During the first two months on the Christmas Tree maintaining the UH-1Cs then receiving AH-1Gs and transferring UH-1Cs, the unit maintained an overall average availability rate of 85% on the UH-1Cs until they were transferred and 10% on the Cobras received. Armament installation, boresight and test firing hampered the Cobra availability during July. Total flying time for the UH-1Cs from June 1st until transfer of all of them was 1,380. Cobra flying time in July was limited to 62 hours.
